.The Young Investor: The North American Guide to Investing Online was written with three clear objectives in mind:

they can learn to manage investments on their own; and

  3. Be a single investment resource that is both useful and appealing to both Canadians and Americans.

To get more insight about why I have decided to write this book and what I felt should be included in it, please feel free to read the Preface

Dan FournierDan Fournier, a dual citizen of Canada and the United States, has been working in the education sector
for over twenty years – seven of them as a Business Instructor at Champlain College in Sherbrooke, Quebec.
He holds a college degree in Computer Information Systems and a Bachelor of Business Administration
degree from Bishop’s University.

On a more personal level, Dan enjoys learning about different cultures, snorkeling in the crystal blue waters
of the Caribbean, and traveling around the world, having visited over twenty countries. He has also been
known to be a formidable opponent in the odd Texas Hold’em tournament. .  As an eternal student, Dan
speaks three languages and is currently learning Mandarin, as he plans to teach in China for a while.

3. Sample Chapter & Glossary:

The author believes that any consumer should be able to sample or test-drive a product before purchasing it. With this in mind,
the author has decided to make the entire contents of Chapter 1 - Why Invest? available both online and in the eBook demo.
The Investment Glossary found in Appendix B can also be read online by anyone for free.
Finally, a Sneak Peak is offered of the
other chapters. Links to these can be found in the following link box:

Users can read Chapter 1... or Appendix B - Investment Glossary...

Users can also get a Sneak Peak of the other chapters:

4. Google Book Search:

Google Book SearchIn addition to the preview material listed above, users can browse and search for specific content (by keyword
search) of The Young Investor through Google's Book Search Prog
ram. This offers users the possibility of viewing up to 20% of the
book's content free of charge. This includes material other than the sample chapter, glossary, and sneak peaks included in this website.

The idea is simple: to give the user a taste of what's inside the book and to see whether it matches what s/he is looking for. Thus before
buying a book, a user can see if the content and style are appealing enough to make a purchase for the real thing. Given the virtual
nature of shopping for books online, this gives the user an innovative means by which to peruse a book as one would in a real bookstore.
Users can also write reviews of the book on Google's Book Search website.

7. Donation to Charity (SPCA):

I have decided to donate 10% of the net proceeds from the sale of both the print and eBook editions to the SPCA International
(The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, go to www.spca.com or click on the image that follows to learn more.

SPCA Logo

SPCA International's mission is to raise awareness of the abuse of animals to a global level, to teach and foster good pet parenting policies,
and to promote spay and neuter programs around the world with the goal of eradicating the need to euthanize healthy and adoptable
companion animals of all ages.

Being a pet owner myself (of a siamese cat name Frosty), I believe that the SPCA can use all the help they can get. I hope that this "good
deed" will encourage other authors as well as customers to donate their time or money to the SPCA.

Should you require any information about my agreement with the SPCA, please contact Ms. Stephanie Daniels (at Stephanie.Daniels@bnw.com)
with the American Charities Group, who represents cause-related marketing for SPCA International and other organizations.

8. Socially Responsible book:

The Young Investor: The most socially respsonsibe investment book out there!

As a Business Instructor, I believe that any business undertaking should be acccompanied by sound practices that take into account the
interests of all stakeholders. These stakeholders not only include customers, but also the community as a whole as well as the
natural environment in which we live. Consequently, I have commited myself to making sure that I can do everything possible to please my
stakeholders and do my part to make our world
a better place. Here how I intend to hold that promise:

1. - Responsibility towards my CUSTOMERS:

  • Commitment to Quality and Service

    - Choice for the consumer... I have decided to give the consumer the choice to purchase either a print or eBook edition of the book.
If the user, wants to purchase the eBook edition, I am not restricting the ability of the reader to print it. I could have done this, but I felt
that  if the reader wants to print part or all of the book for easier reading, then they should be able to do so.

    - Quality Links... I am providing the reader with close to five hundred links to the very best investment-related tools and resources that are
currently available on the Internet. I have spent a significant amount of time carefully selecting only those sites that can provide the reader with
the information and tools required to make him or her a very knowledgeable and skillful investor. Given the nature of the Internet, it is possible
that links found in the book can become out-of-date. Therefore, I have decided to create a section for this website entitled "Updates" (see the
menu bar at the top of this page) in which I will post updates to links found in the book. So users will always be able to access the resources
        they need.

    - Accurate and unbiased information... In developing the content for my book, I have taken, to the best of my ability, every measure
possible to ensure that the information, facts, and explanations presented in this book are valid, accurate, and reliable.

As an educator and author, I value the principle that one who provides information to the public has the responsibility to do so in an unbiased
and independent manner; only then can the information provider maintain a respectable level of integrity and obtain the trust and respect of an
audience. With the exception of having personal bank and brokerage accounts with a few of the parties listed in the book, I assure the reader that,
at the time this book was first published, I had no business, professional, marketing, or investment relationships with any other parties
(i.e., companies, banks, brokerages, associations, organizations, or media) mentioned in the book. If I develop any relationships with parties
mentioned in this book after its initial publication date, I will readily disclose them here.

  • Respect for Privacy

In no way shall I share, rent, or sell personal information I obtain about my customers to other parties without their written permission. I feel that
we all receive more SPAM than we ever want. Hence, this will be an ongoing priority for me.

2. - Responsibility towards the ENVIRONMENT:

  • Let's save some trees...

When choosing a publisher for this book, one of my criteria was to choose one that provided Print-On-Demand (POD) services. POD is
environmentally-friendly in that only once an order is placed to buy a book, is it printed.
This presents a new and more responsible way to
publish books than the traditional model. With the traditional publishing model, hundreds (if not thousands) of copies of a particular book are
printed before they are ever sold. The problem is, however, that if they are never sold then they are bound to be thrown out. And this represents
a significant amount of waste and damage to our natural environment. The print edition of the book is also printed on partially-recycled paper.
Furthermore, m
y publisher, Trafford Publishing, is committed to making choices that are environmentally and socially sound (see
http://www.trafford.com/responsiblepublishing.html for more information).

Having an eBook version of my book also helps the environment in that users can decide to read its contents on their computers (instead of a
on a printed copy).

3. - Responsibility towards the COMMUNITY:

  • Giving back...

As described in the previous section of this Press Kit, the author has decided to donate 10% of the net proceeds from the sale of the book to a
charitable organization - the SPCA International. The author sincerely believes that in today's world, it is important to give back to the community.

By buying the book, customers do their part as well since profits that generated are subsequently donated to the SPCA International.
